Windmöller GmbH, a manufacturer of floor coverings and acoustic solutions based in Detmold, is undergoing restructuring via protective shield proceedings. The Detmold Local Court granted the corresponding application by order dated 9 October 2026. Business operations are continuing without restriction. The wages and salaries of the approximately 280 employees are secured for the time being.
During the restructuring, the management is being supported by restructuring experts from the law firms GÖRG and Reitze Recker Hagemann, as well as the management consultancy Montag & Montag. The Local Court has appointed Dr Yorck T. Streitbörger from Bielefeld as provisional insolvency monitor. He oversees the management in the interests of the creditors. It confirms that the company is not illiquid and that the proposed restructuring is not manifestly without prospect of success.

As part of the protective shield proceedings, the management will examine restructuring options in the coming weeks. In this process, Frederik Wittop, partner at the management consultancy Montag & Montag and Chief Financial Officer / Chief Restructuring Officer (CFO/CRO), Holger Rhode and Dr Raul Taras, both partners at the law firm GÖRG, as well as Dr Sebastian Hagemann, partner at Reitze Recker Hagemann Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH, are supporting Matthias Windmöller in all matters relating to the restructuring.
The application became necessary after Windmöller GmbH recorded significant declines in turnover over the past three months. Demand fell sharply, particularly in the flooring trading segment, due to the ongoing crisis in the construction industry. At the same time, it has not yet been possible to offset the decline in turnover in the existing trading business to the necessary extent by establishing new sales channels. This development has once again hit the company hard after more than two years of restructuring.
Employees have already been informed of the current situation. Business operations will continue without restriction despite the financial difficulties. Existing orders will be processed as usual, and new orders can still be placed.

About protective shield proceedings
Protective shield proceedings enable companies to prepare for restructuring under self-administration. A prerequisite is a reasoned certificate from a qualified expert experienced in insolvency matters confirming that there is impending illiquidity or overindebtedness, but no illiquidity, and that the proposed restructuring is not manifestly without prospect of success. The court sets a deadline of no more than three months for the submission of an insolvency plan. The management remains responsible for running the company under the supervision of a court-appointed provisional insolvency monitor.
