GÖRG has provided legal advice to Maltese games developer Reforged Studios on the acquisition of all of the shares in the German games publisher Headup GmbH. With this transaction, Reforged Studios is strengthening its position as an international, developer-focused publishing partner for independent studios.
Reforged Studios, founded in 2023 by Peter van der Watt, Ross Laurie and Colin Anderson, aims to build an international, developer-focused publishing platform. With the acquisition of Headup, Reforged Studios is strategically strengthening its portfolio in the field of indie publishing and further expanding its international presence.
Headup is a well-established German independent publisher with a broad portfolio of successful titles, including “Bridge Constructor”, “Pumpkin Jack”, “Trüberbrook” and “Super Meat Boy 3D”. Founded by Dieter Schoeller, the company has been active in the independent games market for many years and brings extensive experience in game development and marketing.
As part of the transaction, Headup will become part of the Reforged Group while continuing to operate independently, publishing and supporting independent games. The acquisition aims to combine Headup’s established activities with Reforged Studios’ international structure and growth ambitions, safeguarding creative independence and brand identity while facilitating access to global markets.
GÖRG provided Reforged Studios with advice on all transaction-related legal matters in connection with the acquisition, with a team led by Hamburg-based partner Prof. Dr Stephan R. Göthel.
