Christof Siefarth advises domestic and international companies on matters relating to commercial and distribution law. His focuses are in assisting international clients, particularly with regard to transnational legal and cultural differences. Christof Siefarth also frequently acts as counsel and arbitrator in litigation and arbitration proceedings.
Christof Siefarth has extensive experience coordinating international litigation and arbitration proceedings as well as all types of commercial transactions that concern various jurisdictions in many sectors, such as the automotive industry, medical products, international construction and other branches. He has represented foreign parties from many different countries before German courts as well as international arbitral tribunals and participated in many court proceedings abroad, particularly in the USA. Christof Siefarth represented the defendant in the first oral hearing conducted in English before the Cologne District Court.
Christof Siefarth is a member of the Cologne and German Bar Associations, the New York State Bar Association, and the International Bar Association. He was the president of the University of Georgia LL.M. Alumni Association from 1997 to 2010. Christof Siefarth is the only non-American board member of the Atlanta International Arbitration Society (AtlAS - www.arbitrateatlanta.org). Christof Siefarth studied law at the University of Cologne where he obtained his doctorate (summa cum laude, with high honors) with a dissertation on US motion picture copyright law in 1990. He completed his first state examination in law in 1984, then, after his training at the Cologne Court of Appeals, he passed the second state examination in law in 1989, and was admitted to the bar in Cologne. Christof Siefarth also spent the academic year 1980/81 studying law at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) with a focus on international and comparative law, then went on to receive the academic title Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, Georgia, USA in 1985/86. In 1991 he worked as a foreign associate with an international law firm in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
He was admitted to the bar in Cologne in 1989, and to the New York State Bar in 1992.
Teaching activities and lectures
- Christof Siefarth regularly lectures on international business matters, including approximately 100 presentations, especially in the USA.
- He was the chairman at various international conferences of the Center for International Legal Studies (CILS).
- His activities include lectures as an adjunct Professor of Lazarski University (Poland) in the field of “International Business Transactions/International Business Practice” as part of the program “LL.M. in Transnational Commercial Practice“.
