3. Collection of personal data, purpose and legal basis for the processing

In order to use our website, you do not necessarily have to share personal data such as your name and e-mail address with us. We do, however, collect, process and store personal data in the following cases:

a) Data that are automatically stored when you visit our website

When you visit our website, data and technical information are automatically sent by your Internet browser to our website’s server. The following information is temporarily stored in a log file until it is automatically erased: the IP address of your computer, the name and URL of the file accessed and the access status / HTTP status code of your computer’s browser.

We collect and use this data to smooth the user’s connection to our website, to continually enhance our site and to safeguard the security and stability of our network.

Art. 6(1)(f) of the GDPR provides the legal basis for the temporary storage of data. The purposes mentioned above constitute a legitimate basis for our processing of this data. Under no circumstances are the data used to reveal information about you. Such data are not combined with personal data from other sources.

In addition, we use cookies and an analysis service when you visit our website. You will find detailed information about this in points 5 and 6.

b) Use of our contact form

If you have questions of any kind, you can contact us by using the form provided on our website. In addition to providing your title, first and last name, and the name of your organization, you need to provide us with a valid e-mail address so that we know who sent the enquiry and can respond to it. You may if you wish enter additional information. All of the data provided on the contact form will be transmitted in encrypted form.

Data processing by us in connection with contacting you is done on the basis of your voluntary consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) of the GDPR.

c) Subscription to our newsletters

Our website offers you the option of subscribing to newsletters on different areas of the law. In order to receive newsletters, it is enough to provide a valid e-mail address. You may if you wish enter additional information. For your security, we use the double opt-in procedure for newsletter subscription. This means that the first thing we do is to send a confirmation e-mail to the e-mail address that you used to subscribe. Your newsletter subscription first becomes active when you click on the validation link in our e-mail. This procedure rules out the possibility of your becoming a subscriber against your will.

Where we process data in connection with sending you our newsletter, this is done on the basis of your voluntary consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) of the GDPR and § 7(3) of the Act against Unfair Competition (Gesetz gegen den unlauteren Wettbewerb – UWG). You may withdraw your consent at any time with future effect. All of the e-mails that we send you have an unsubscribe link for this purpose. Alternatively, you can also withdraw your consent at any time by e-mailing us at The withdrawal of your consent will lead to your e-mail address being deleted from our mailing list.

5. Use of cookies

We sometimes use anonymous session cookies on our website. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your system in your browser’s cache when you visit our website until you close your browser to end your session. Cookies are designed to ensure that our website is properly displayed on your browser and to make it more user friendly for you.

Cookies enable your browser to be recognized when you return to a website. The use of cookies does not result in the storage of personal data nor does it allow a link to personal user data.

Most browsers are set to accept cookies automatically. However, you can deactivate the storage of cookies or configure your browser so that it notifies you whenever a cookie is sent.

6. Use of cookies for web statistics

Our website uses technologies from etracker GmbH ( to collect and store data for marketing and optimization purposes. This data enables us to create user profiles under a pseudonym. We may use cookies for this purpose. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your system in your browser’s cache when you visit our website. Cookies enable your browser to be recognized when you return to a website.

Art. 6(1)(f) of the GDPR provides the legal basis for processing. The purposes mentioned above constitute a legitimate basis for our processing of this data. The data collected using etracker technologies are not used to personally identify website visitors without their express consent, nor are they used to associate personal data with the person to whom the pseudonym refers. 7. Data privacy in connection with our Facebook fan page

Our website uses programs or plugins of the Facebook social network. These involve the button with the Facebook logo and the associated “Become a fan” link. The social network is operated by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (Facebook). It maintains what is known as a fan page for us. All data processing related to our fan page is carried out by Facebook not by us. We do not know exactly how Facebook processes data when and after a user accesses a fan page. We can therefore only provide you with the following information, which is based on what we have been able to ascertain thus far.

When you are logged in with Facebook, it collects data about your actions, interactions and movements within its social network. Facebook uses this data for its own business purposes to optimize its personalized direct marketing profile for each user. It links this information to your profile and your registered data as well as other information that you or others have entered about you in its social network. For information on the purpose and scope of data collection by Facebook, and Facebook’s processing and use of your personal data, your rights in this respect, and the settings options available for protecting your privacy, please refer to Facebook's Data Use Policy ( have no influence on data protection at Facebook.

Even when you are not logged in with Facebook, it stores and uses data regarding the operating system that you use, your browser version, your IP address and the information that it can derive from this about your location.

In addition, Facebook can use cookies to recognize whether you are a not-logged-in or not-registered user and will use the statistical data collected during every session to expand your profile when you next log into your account or when you register with Facebook for the first time.

8. Use, disclosure and duration of storage of personal data

Our website is managed by the Internet agency brainbits GmbH, Alpenerstraße 16, 50825 Cologne, which acts as our ‘processor’ pursuant to Art. 28 of the GDPR. The technical and organizational security measures implemented by brainbits GmbH were checked before it was engaged and are reviewed regularly.

Your personal data will only be disclosed to third parties – insofar as necessary and legally permissible – if you have explicitly consented to this or the law requires it.

Where you provide us with personal data and explicitly consent to their use, we will only use the data for the purpose for which this consent was given. You may withdraw your consent at any time with future effect.

Your personal data will only be processed and stored for as long as and insofar as this is necessary for the purposes specified in this Privacy Notice. After these purposes have been fulfilled, the data are routinely erased. Data are not erased if continued processing is necessary to satisfy statutory retention periods or where the statutory limitation periods require data retention for documentary and evidentiary purposes.

9. Security, e-mail communication

We attach great importance to ensuring the maximum security of our data processing system and website, and make use of modern data storage and security technologies to provide the optimum protection of your data. Naturally, we continually improve our security measures to keep pace with technical progress.

Our website uses 256 bit SSL encryption technology. Your data are only transmitted in encrypted form.

We would like to point out, however, that if you contact us by e-mail that it is possible for unauthorized persons to read and change your e-mail without being noticed. In addition, we use spam filtering software to filter unwanted e-mails. If e-mails are erroneously identified as spam mail because they have certain characteristics, they may be blocked by our spam filter. We would therefore recommend that you use postal mail or fax if you wish to send us any confidential information.

10. Links to other sites

Insofar as our website contains links to the websites of third parties over whose content we have no influence, we are, due to our lack of influence, unable to accept any responsibility for such content. The parties responsible for the content of linked websites are always the relevant service providers or operators. We checked the third-party websites for possible violations of the law at the time the links were created. At such time, no illegal content was evident. However, it is not possible to expect ongoing checking of the content of the linked websites unless there are solid reasons for suspecting a violation of the law. If any violations of the law come to our attention, we will immediately remove the links concerned.

11. Right to access, right to object and other rights

You have a right to access information regarding the personal data stored about you at any time (Art. 15 of the GDPR). Moreover, you have the right to require that inaccurate data about you be rectified and that incomplete data be completed (Art. 16 of the GDPR).

Where the statutory requirements are met, you have, in addition, the right to demand that data be erased or that processing be restricted (blocked) (Art. 17 and Art. 18 of the GDPR).

Furthermore, where we process your personal data to safeguard our legitimate interests, you have the right to object at any time to the processing of your personal data on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 of the GDPR).

12. Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
