Dr. Roland Hoffmann-Theinert, E.M.B.L.-HSG, is an attorney, partner and notary in our Berlin office. He is the founder of our Berlin office and was active in the management of our firm for many years.
He is a trusted advisor to numerous domestic and foreign businesses who seek an external counsellor at eye level for long-term strategic dialogues on significant business measures. These can include corporate restructurings, the purchase or sale of a business (M&A transactions), shareholder relations, internal compliance matters or sensitive disputes among shareholders, business partners and competitors. Roland is also well-versed in overseeing complex business succession matters.
Advising on these issues as a trusted counsellor requires comprehensive experience, in-depth expertise and the ability to manage specialised colleagues with relevant skill sets. Roland draws on a deep professional legal and non-legal network, including internationally, to ensure that client matters are managed holistically. Above all, his role as a business advisor is based on decades of client trust and the professional confidence that comes from supporting clients on some of their most critical business and personal decisions.
Roland also frequently advises various corporate boards on sensitive and sometimes controversial matters. His advice is risk-management based and informed by personal experience: Roland served as a supervisory board member at numerous companies, including as chairman of the supervisory board of Karstadt Warenhaus GmbH with a co-determined supervisory board.
Roland’s skills and counsel are frequently also put in the service of HNW individuals, including on succession planning and in executor roles.
For many years, Roland was a lecturer at the Free University of Berlin and also at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
He has published numerous articles and is the co-editor of the well-known Beck commentary on the German Commercial Code (HGB). His work as an attorney at GÖRG was preceded by positions in banks and insurance companies in Germany and abroad.
