After studying law at the University of Cologne, he moved to South Africa where he obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Stellenbosch University. Afterwards he completed his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Cologne, which included stations at a business law firm and the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

He was admitted to the bar in 2021.
