Expertise
Thoralf Herbold is a partner at the GÖRG Cologne and Hamburg offices. He has extensive expertise in the field of energy. For a number of years he has been advising national and international clients on all regulatory matters relating to the energy sector, in particular in the fields of renewable energies and energy trading. He also specialises in providing support for M&A transactions in the energy sector, as well as for projects in the electricity production industry (offshore and onshore wind parks, photovoltaic systems). He also advises on matters of public law (approval, planning permission, regional planning) as well as on grid connections for generation plants.
A particular focus of his activities is providing advice in relation to planning, structuring and developing renewable energy projects (especially onshore and offshore wind energy and photovoltaics). Thoralf Herbold not only advises project developers, but also national and international investors in the field of energy. He and his team therefore have years of experience in carrying out due diligence procedures as well as structuring and negotiating M&A transactions in the energy sector. In addition, he has led extensive and large-scale judicial and extra-judicial procedures to assert his clients’ contractual and statutory claims. He also has many years of experience in the field of energy trading, such as the direct marketing of electricity from renewable sources, as well as structuring Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).
Career
Thoralf Herbold is a partner at GÖRG Partnerschaft von Rechtsanwälten mbB. Before joining GÖRG in 2009, he worked as a lawyer at a major law firm in Düsseldorf.
Before and during his degree, until 2004 he worked as a police commissioner in Cologne. After completing his studies in Cologne, he completed his legal training in Wuppertal with clerkships at a corporate law firm in Cologne and a European authority in the Hague (Netherlands).
He was admitted to the bar in 2007.
